it felt like it was going to be unsafe because it was going to be unsafe

sounding sensations is about expression as release

release as becoming free from

expression as sound and/or movement

sound and/or movement as guttural, unpolished, true

to practice sounding sensations

one must become radically honest

about their moment to moment felt sensations

and radically honest

in finding bravery to express these sensations

sensations as bodily feelings                 [my hip joint hurts]

sensations as sensed feelings                 [I feel awkwardness present]

a secondary piece to the work is witness

being witnessed

this has always been present

and as such

together

we have cultivated safety to be in witness of and to one anothers expressions

today we arrived in the studio in order to render a performative offering from our practice

we perform next month

we commenced with performance making methods

got somewhere

realised

that we needed to practice the practice     to ensure we were recalling honestly

we practiced for 20 minutes

as with every practice

when practicing, we came to know ourselves      deeper    fuller     truer

this practice of expression, of revealing, runs wide

the practice picks you up exactly where you are       and brings you to the fore

via honest reveal, there is no hiding                          there is only being

exactly where and how you are

it seems that only now we realised

that we were working to put this practice on stage

in wider witness

of an auditorium full of people

this felt scary

            ^ very

it also felt unsafe

reveal is precious

push to hard

trespass to far

and you blow your nervous system out

this is not something we are interested in

for we know that force is not how you welcome yourself further into that which is true

blowing your nervous system out is reckless   -    it perpetuates only fear and distrust

post practice

there was a clear decision to be made

either we put the practice on stage    -     we go on stage and practice the practice, without any performative rendering or considerations

or we render a performative offering     -     we work with and inside of the practice to cultivate a curated offering that aligns the core values of the practice

putting this practice on the stage felt like it was going to be unsafe

putting this practice on the stage felt like it was going to be unsafe

because it was going to be unsafe

which is to say

if practise is what you desire,

come to class

come to the workshop

come to the safe space

fear operates in all directions

but there's a certain type of fear that also holds safety to lean into

                                go that way

                                                                        towards the goosebumps

                                                                        away from the terror

the most aligned leaning:

the practice does not belong on a stage

performative offering of the practice belongs on the stage

so we took of the skirts

we changed the name of the practice

a study on sounding     a revealed study

we decided cultivating vast amount of safety between us is the only thing that matters

for the reveal sits between us

our next edge is between and with one another

how can we hold each another

how can we trust one another with our honest expression

in a room full of people who have not practiced our practice with us

amongst critics who are paid to write about us

we spend the afternoon lying next to one another

cultivating quiet intimacy

head on the hip

palm under elbow

fingers, interlaced
